Interzum 2025 – trade show that is shaping the future of the industry
Interzum is one of the most important international events dedicated to components, materials and technologies for the furniture and interior design industry. Held periodically in Cologne, the fair brings together innovation leaders – both material suppliers and machine manufacturers, designers and creators of new design trends.
It is at Interzum that product innovations, trends in finishing materials, as well as innovative technological solutions are presented, which in the following months are reflected in projects implemented by furniture manufacturers around the world. For the Melaco team, participation in the Interzum fair is not only an opportunity to learn about new solutions, but above all a source of inspiration and exchange of experience, which translates into the development of our own offer – in accordance with market expectations and the changing approach to furniture design.
Trends at Interzum
Features and soft lines – a new dimension of comfort
One of the strongest trends at this year’s fair was rounded forms and softer transitions in furniture pieces. Straight, angular edges are increasingly giving way to designs that follow the natural lines of the hand and eye – pleasant to the touch and visually harmonious.

Soft lines and curved profiles are the answer to users’ growing expectations for comfort, safety and aesthetic consistency. The design is clearly oriented toward ergonomics – which is perfectly evident in the fronts, as well as in the decorative panels or the bodies of free-standing furniture.
Postforming technology, used at Melaco in the production of furniture components, makes it possible to realize designs based on gently rounded edges – without visible joints or material interference. It’s a solution that supports modern design and allows you to create furniture that meets current trends, without compromising on durability.

Clash of structures – the more contrasts, the more interesting
Clash of structures – the more contrasts, the more interestingOne of the most noticeable trends at Interzum 2025 was the conscious juxtaposition of various structures and finishes within a single furniture collection. Designers are increasingly willing to use contrast – not only in color, but especially in texture – to create furniture that surprises with its complexity and visual dynamics.
The fair was dominated by connections such as:
- high-gloss with deep matte (e.g., supermats with anti-fingerprint effect),
- stone structures with natural wood grain,
- smooth lacquered surfaces with deeply embossed fluting.
This type of juxtaposition allows to achieve the effect of depth and chiaroscuro play, which not only enhances the aesthetics of the furniture, but also increases its utility and arrangement value.
In response to these needs, we already offer a variety of components in a variety of finishes – from high-gloss fronts to Premier Matt super matte surfaces to MicroMilling™ three-dimensional structures. Such a portfolio makes it possible to freely combine contrasting components within a single collection, without compromising on the quality of workmanship.
Natural inspiration – materials and decors
The second strong trend evident at Interzum was the fascination with natural materials – but framed in a modern, minimalist and functional way. Manufacturers and designers are keen on wood- and stone-inspired decors, but purged of excess detail.

Among the dominant designs were:
- oak and walnut with a simple, regular grain – without knots or cracks,
- stone textures inspired by marble, slate and sandstone – often in matte versions,
- single-color lacquered surfaces – in shades of beige, ash, gray and pastel tones (sage, blue, dirty pink).
These types of decors not only meet the aesthetic needs of users, but also fit in with the growing importance of sustainable design – subdued, durable and timeless.
Do you want to offer your customers products that meet their expectations?
At Melaco, we are systematically developing a range of decors in line with this direction – both in terms of PET/PVC polymer veneers and surface structures available in the MTO system. This makes it possible to realize projects that are in line with current trends, without sacrificing the individual character and visual coherence of the collection.
