What are MELAFOL furniture fronts and what are they made of?
MELAFOL fronts are one of the basic lines of fronts and furniture elements in Melaco’s offer. These furniture elements are manufactured on the basis of high-quality MDF boards. The base material from which they are made is characterised by stability and susceptibility to precise processing, which allows for a wide range of designs and milling patterns.
The thickness of MDF boards used in this technology ranges from 6 to 28 mm, which allows for great flexibility in designing fronts of various types – from light decorative elements to solid front panels. The surface is covered with a 0.35–0.60 mm thick film made of materials such as PVC or PET.
The production process uses a two-component PUR dispersion adhesive system, which ensures a durable and resistant bond between the film and the MDF board. This technology guarantees the stability of the front even in demanding environmental conditions, such as high humidity or variable temperatures.
MELAFOL fronts have a thermal resistance of ≥70°C, which allows them to be used safely in kitchens and bathrooms, where surfaces are exposed to high temperatures.
The dimensions of the elements range from 60 to 1000 mm in width and 250 to 2300 mm in height, allowing for flexible adaptation of the fronts to a variety of furniture designs – from small cabinets to tall kitchen units and wardrobes.
The main technological and functional advantages of MELAFOL fronts
Why are Melafol furniture fronts a good choice for manufacturers of kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and children’s and youth furniture?
- Quality and production technology. The MELAFOL front manufacturing process is based on polymer film veneering technology combined with PUR adhesive. This ensures that the film is permanently bonded to the MDF board surface and does not peel off even under difficult operating conditions. The technology used eliminates the risk of air bubbles, delamination or microcracks on the edges. This solution gives manufacturers the confidence that the finished fronts will meet the quality requirements of the market.
- Durability, resistance to moisture, temperature and mechanical stress. MELAFOL fronts are manufactured from certified materials, and the production process ensures compliance with formaldehyde emission standards (DIN EN 16516). The polymer film coating and bonding technology ensure resistance to moisture, elevated temperatures and mechanical damage. In its technical documentation, Melaco emphasises that the fronts are resistant to temperatures of at least 70 °C. In practice, this means that MELAFOL fronts can also be used in demanding areas such as kitchen and bathroom furniture without fear of deformation, warping or flaking of the coating.
- Aesthetics, finishes and surface variants. MELAFOL fronts are available in a variety of finishes. One of the available finishes is PREMIER MATT, which offers a scratch- and stain-resistant surface with low reflectivity and an anti-fingerprint effect.
- Ecology and certificates. In the production of MELAFOL fronts, we use MDF boards that meet formaldehyde emission standards and certified raw materials (e.g. FSC®). Melaco also declares pro-ecological activities, including material recycling and the use of certified raw materials as part of its sustainable development strategy.
For furniture manufacturers, working with a supplier that focuses on environmental protection and certification is an advantage in the eyes of customers and meets growing regulatory and marketing requirements.
Safety and hygiene of use
MELAFOL fronts meet the requirements of formaldehyde emission standards (DIN EN 16516), which means they are safe for everyday use. This is particularly important in the case of children’s and youth furniture, where not only durability but also the absence of health risks for users is important. The ease of cleaning the surface also promotes hygiene in domestic spaces – both in kitchens and bathrooms.
Adaptation to diverse market needs
In industrial-scale production, product repeatability is crucial. Thanks to their stable dimensions and modern veneering technology, MELAFOL fronts guarantee identical quality in every production batch. This allows large manufacturers and retail chains to maintain consistency across their collections in multiple markets simultaneously, without the risk of colour or dimensional discrepancies.
Cost optimisation in serial production
For manufacturers serving large chains, the profitability of investments in materials is crucial. Thanks to their durability and resistance to damage, MELAFOL fronts minimise the risk of complaints and thus after-sales service costs. The repeatable process of manufacturing MDF boards and veneering them with PVC or PET film facilitates planning and reduces material losses, which translates into real savings on a large scale.
Summary
MELAFOL fronts are a solution that meets the needs of large manufacturers and retail chains operating on an industrial scale. Thanks to stable technical parameters, dimensional repeatability and a wide range of finishes, it is possible to create consistent furniture collections tailored to different market segments. The durability of the materials and resistance to conditions of use minimise the number of complaints and support the efficiency of production processes. At the same time, environmental certificates and compliance with formaldehyde emission standards make it easier to meet growing requirements. The combination of these features makes MELAFOL fronts a stable and cost-effective solution for the mass production of furniture intended for mass distribution.
